Current Bias

Adjustable pillows are favored because people have different shoulders, mattresses, and bad habits.

Pillow reviews for people who want the measurements first.

PillowReviewGuy is a plain review site for common pillows: Coop, Beckham, Purple, Casper, Tempur-Pedic, Saatva, Layla, Brooklinen, Quince, Target, Walmart, Amazon Basics, IKEA, and other stuff people actually buy. The database starts with 55 pillows and should get larger because pillow aisles are stupidly large.

The style is simple. A pillow is a bag, slab, grid, or cube that holds your head at a height. If it does that at 2 a.m. and again after washing, it is good. If it only feels good for ten minutes, it is a showroom pillow.

Fast Picks

Cheap guest room

Beckham Hotel Collection

Good price per pillow. Less precise. Expect fluffing and less lab consistency.

Hot side sleeper

Purple Harmony

Latex plus GelFlex grid. Bouncy, ventilated, expensive, and strange enough to earn the test.

Stomach/back sleeper

TEMPUR-Cloud

Low, soft, dense foam. Bad if you need a tall side-sleeper bridge.

Lab Method Summary

Pillow testing bench illustration

The full protocol is on the test protocol page. The short version: measure unloaded loft, compressed loft, recovery, heat retention, wash behavior, odor, fill migration, and alignment on side/back/stomach setups. The pillow gets punished like a normal pillow under load.

  • Compressed loft: height under a repeatable head-weight load.
  • Recovery: height 1 minute and 60 minutes after load removal.
  • Heat: surface temperature after a 10 minute heat pad and 10 minute cool-down.
  • Wash: cover and whole-pillow cleaning exactly as the label allows.

This Gets Expensive

This site is cheap to read and expensive to run. The honest version buys boring pillows twice and ruins one carefully.

Current bill: retail pillows, duplicate pillows, return shipping, wash cycles, probe batteries, storage bins.

Donations buy the next retail pillow and the duplicate that gets destroyed.

Affiliate links help with small bills. Reader support pays for the samples the charts need.
